Our central heating cast iron radiators comply with UK &
EU Legislation EN442. This requires tests to determine a standard
heat output for each cast iron radiator which enables direct
comparison of the outputs of the various types of radiators.
Cast iron radiators are only suitable for installation on 'closed'
circuit central heating systems where the system is filled with
water and the water does not change unless the system is drained.
If it is required to fix a radiator or towel rail on a system
where the water is changed regularly, such as a domestic hot
water circuit, which is called an 'open' circuit, different materials
are needed for manufacture, such materials are brass or stainless
steel.
Connections on column cast iron radiators are normally at the
sides, often refered to as BOE, bottom opposite ends. Where the
connections are at the side then irrespective of how the pipes
are brought to the radiator, angle valves are normally used.
Some of these radiators are supplied with 3/4" BSP female
connections and bushes to reduce to 1/2" BSP female.
We can also provide a range of traditional radiator valves in
polished brass, brushed brass and nickel to complement these
reproduction cast iron radiators. Thermostatic traditional valves
are also available. All our traditional radiator valves are available
in angle pattern and come in pairs. Connections on central heating
radiators are normally 1/2" BSP but some larger column radiators
may be 3/4" BSP. Some of our traditional radiator valves
available with the Apollo Firenze are 3/4" BSP.
Cast iron radiators are normally supplied pre assembled up to
about ten sections. Where they are larger than this they are
supplied with connecting nipples and gaskets for final assembly
at the time of installation. A special tool is required to assemble
them on site.
Cast iron radiators and column radiators can be very heavy. The
weight of the radiator has to be taken into account at the time
of delivery and when carrying out the installation, moving the
radiator into position and carrying out assemby where necessary.
Support of the radiator must also be considered in relation
to its weight whether it is being supported on the wall or standing
on the foor.
